Labor Challenges Cited as US Manufacturing PMI Dips to 59.5 Percent

Overall US Economy Has 14th Consecutive Month of Growth

US manufacturers registered a 59.5 percent PMI® according to the July Manufacturing ISM® Report On Business®. That was down 1.1 percentage points from the June reading of 60.6 percent and the lowest reading since January. In the report, Timothy R. Fiore, Chair of the ISM® Manufacturing Business Survey Committee says Business Survey Committee panelists reported that their companies and suppliers continue to struggle to meet increasing demand levels.

With the COVID-19 pandemic kicking off a DIY trend that some are projecting to extend through 2021, we took the time to catch up with product manager Nadja Essler of ZAHN Pinsel GmbH in our July/August issue to get an update on the paintbrush and paint products sector.

How would you characterize your current volume of sales in the paint products category?

I think we are on target. But there are, of course, a lot of new materials and also shapes for the brushes for craftsmen, which we are currently testing and developing. We are always trying to develop new and better materials and also shapes, which are helpful for easy working.

New Hillbrush Initiative Utilizes Recycled Bottle Fiber

As part of its Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibilities (CSER), Hillbrush, the UK’s largest manufacturer of brushes and specialist cleaning tools has replaced the coco fiber used in several of its traditional brushes, with a new fiber material made from recycled plastic bottles.

Deco Products: Multi-Slide Zinc Die-Casting Equipment Acquisition

Recently Deco Products acquired miniature, four-slide zinc die-casting equipment and related process technology. These machines were acquired from Mumford Metal Casting of South Carolina in March 2021, and provides further expansion of Deco Products and solution advantages for customer designs.

US Manufacturing PMI Stays Strong in June

13 Straight Months Above The 50 Percent Line for US Manufacturers

The ISM® Report On Business® for June reported a US PMI of 60.6 percent, down slightly from the May reading of 61.2 percent. Panelists from the survey reported that their companies and suppliers continue to struggle to meet increasing levels of demand. Record-long raw-material lead times, wide-scale shortages of critical basic materials, rising commodities prices and difficulties in transporting products are continuing to affect all segments of the US manufacturing economy.
